The state of Florida mandates that all secondary students receive a presentation regarding the topic of Human Trafficking. At River Ridge Middle School, we have been fortunate to partner with Selah Freedom (a national organization providing awareness, prevention, outreach and housing to victims) to present the anti-human trafficking message.

The 6th graders receive information regarding Human Trafficking through the health class curriculum. The 7th and 8th graders will be receiving the information through a one-hour presentation during class time that will take place on March 23, 25, and 26 in social studies (8th grade) and science (7th grade).

The 7th grade presentation is entitled, “I Am Little Red.” This presentation was designed as a national prevention tool to reduce the risk of commercial sexual exploitation. Through the viewing of a 10-minute short film, the four tactics a “wolf” will typically use to lure a Little Red off his/her path will be presented and explained to students. Our 8th graders will be presented information through the presentation “Sex, Lies & Media.” This presentation uses cutting-edge multi-media to educate youth on the online recruitment tactics that predators use. It equips students with practical ways to discuss the issue, protect themselves online and be a part of the solution.

Please see the informational letter below. If you wish for your child to opt out of the presentations, please complete the form and return to your child’s 8th grade World History or 7th grade Science teacher prior to the presentation.
