In order to protect the health and safety of employees, staff, and students, all those who access Pasco County School locations must self-screen for symptoms and other risk factors of COVID-19 daily. If you answer YES to any of the questions, you should NOT be on a school campus or school district office. All three self-screeners – the Student Self-Screener, the Employee Self-Screener, and the Visitor Self-Screener – are accessible from the district’s COVID-19 protocols page and are posted on each school web page.

Royal Family,

Good afternoon, Royal Families!  We have had a great Start with Hello week and will continue to work on inclusion and our Royal Culture of Caring throughout the year. We have many exciting events planned this year like dances, pep rallies, field days, and much more as we are very proud of our school, students and River Ridge community.

Many of you have heard about the Tik Tok challenge “Devious Lick” which shows students stealing items from school and vandalizing their school. I want to recognize that MOST of our students are participating in following our River Ridge expectations daily and doing an excellent job of being respectful, responsible, problem solvers! Unfortunately, we have had vandalism in the new restrooms and around the school and several items taken from teacher’s classrooms including computers and personal items. This is not OK. The staff and administration is having to spend time investigating these situations and creating more unnecessary work which takes away from our focus on creating a safe school focused on learning. Our teachers and staff work tirelessly to plan rigorous instruction and create class and campus environments that are inviting and collaborative along with monitoring the safety of our students. I am very sad and disappointed that we have students engaging in this behavior on THEIR school campus. We know this is a small group of our population, we appreciate you talking to your children about not participating in these challenges. Tik Tok and other social media apps can be positive and have benefits if used in an appropriate manner. If a student does participate in this behavior in any manner when they are caught they will have school consequences and law enforcement will be involved. They will be prosecuted. I am hoping through school and home partnership, we will be able to end this unacceptable behavior.

Thank you to everyone for supporting our RRMS Step It Up fundraiser for student and staff recognition and technology for the classroom!  Your generous donations go straight back to the classrooms. The fundraiser runs through September 27th, take this time to check your dashboard and see how close you are to meeting your individual goal.  For those students who earn $60 or more, will be able to participate in the RRMS Day of Awesome on October 12th. Good afternoon, Royal Families!
This upcoming week is #StartwithHello Week. Here at River Ridge, we want to do something about spreading our Royal Culture of Caring and building an inclusive school community, and we figured the best place to start, was with “Hello.”

The goal of the Start With Hello campaign is to teach children and teens how to be more socially inclusive and connected to each other. Start With Hello asks students, educators, parents and other community leaders who interact with children to take steps in class, the lunchroom and/or on the bus to be inclusive and connected. Simply, – SEE someone alone  – REACH OUT and help  – START WITH HELLO So very simple, yet so very powerful!

The Royal Ambassador student group as developed a week with dress up days, acts of kindness, and ice breakers. We encourage everyone to participate and Start with Hello!

We want to ensure that healthy students remain in class, and healthy staff members remain on the job. To achieve that goal, the District is changing how notifications are being made for students and staff who have been in contact with a positive case.

Starting last Friday, we will notify parents/guardians that someone in their student’s class tested positive by email. The students WILL NOT BE REQUIRED TO QUARANTINE if they are healthy with no COVID-like symptoms. Instead, we will inform parents/guardians that if their student exhibits symptoms they should remain at home, and they should consider getting tested. The self screener posted on each school website provides a helpful guide regarding symptoms, and should be reviewed daily prior to coming to school. It is essential that students and staff should not be in school or in the workplace if they have symptoms.

If your child is absent or on quarantine, learning will continue and support is available. Please make sure that they access myLearning for each course for daily agendas, assignments, and support from teachers and the district.  There is also a button on the RRMS website homepage with more information at What Do I Do If I Am Absent or on Quarantine?

Students will continue to take the NWEA Map Diagnostic assessments in their ELA, Math, and Science classes this week. These assessments help to determine instructional needs.  Score sheet will be available in myStudent under Testing History for parent information.

Interest Club sign ups continue this week in all classrooms through Knight Time, the cafeteria and in myLearning. All Royal Knights will be involved in a club of their interests on Early Release Days. The deadline for selecting Clubs for first semester is Wednesday, August 25th. If a student doesn’t select a club, they will be in a study hall.  Please contact Mr. Astone if you have questions about clubs.

This week in sports there will be a Volleyball Parent meeting on Wednesday, August 25th at 4PM in the Cafeteria.

It is IMPORTANT that if your student takes a bus to school, please check myStudent on the transportation tab this weekend for updated bus pick-up stop times. Bus schedules have been shifted to assure students are arriving at school on time by up to 20 minutes earlier. This is effective Monday, August 16th.

If you have not already, please go on to the parent portal in myStudent to update emergency cards, sign parental notices, and pay fees through Rycor. It is imperative that all student contact information is up to date and accurate.

8/8/21

Good afternoon Royal Knights. This is Mrs. Murphy, Principal of River Ridge Middle School. We am looking forward to welcoming back all of our Royal Knights on Tuesday, August 10th when school starts at 7:30AM. The campus will be open to students starting at 7:10AM. Before coming on campus daily, students should review and answer the Student Self Screener located on the RRMS website in the red header. Students who are car riders should only be dropped off and picked up in the middle school car loop. We ask that you be patient and courteous as there is usually a lot of traffic during the first few weeks. If at all possible, we are recommending that if your child is assigned a bus to please use the bus transportation as it limits the traffic. When students arrive on campus, they will be greeted by our Royal staff and should go to the media center, the grade level hallways and cafeteria to find their first period classes lists. It is highly recommended that students take a picture of their schedule and make it a screensaver on their phone or print a copy. This school year students may get free breakfast in the cafeteria and then will go directly to their first period classes every morning as there is no congregating in the hallways or courtyards. All students will receive new copies of their schedules with their bus pass in first period. Students should only follow the schedule they receive in first period as there have been some schedule changes. Please make sure that you view the Castle Expectations video on our website prior to coming on campus as it will ease the transition back to school and make you aware of all of our safety and health procedures. Although masks are not required, the Superintendent is highly encouraging both staff and students to wear masks. This is a family decision that will be respected.

In the afternoon, the bus line up is posted on our website and will also be around campus so that students are aware which row their bus will be in at the middle school bus loop. Finally, school supply lists are on the RRMS website and have been mailed/distributed to all families through Storm the Castle and the Back to School newsletter. We highly recommend that students also have their own personal hand sanitizer, water bottle as there will be no drinking from fountains only filling, earbuds, calculator, and bring your own electronic device either a computer or tablet to alleviate the need to share devices. Classroom supplies can be brought in through out the first week.

This week we have football try outs Monday, August 9th through Friday, August 13th from 2PM-4:30PM. Please meet at the boys’ locker room.  There is also cheerleading try outs on Wednesday, August 11th through Friday, August 13th from 2PM-4PM in the Dance Room. Prior to trying out for middle school athletics, all students must have an updated athletic paperwork that is notarized and a physical.  Please see Coach Brando or our website for more information.

If you have not already, please go on to the parent portal in myStudent to update emergency cards, sign parental notices, and pay fees through Rycor. It is imperative that all student contact information is up to date and accurate.

It is very important that you review all of the information on our website regarding the River Ridge Middle School’s Reunited Plan to partner with us in an a collective effort for a successful school year.  We are truly excited to welcome all of our Royal Knights back to the Castle!  We are Better Together and it’s time to get our Royal GAME ON!

School safety is a collective responsibility and it will take the efforts of all of our Royal students, staff and families to keep River Ridge clean and safe. It will be important for families to emphasize and model healthy behaviors at home and to talk to their students about expectations at school. Please review the 21-22 RRMS Castle Expectations video on our website and social media to better understand our procedures that have been put in place to maintain a safe learning environment. We also have developed an RRMS Student Expectations Plan document to provide additional information that is also located on our website and in the back to school newsletter that was mailed home to explain a student’s day.

On Tuesday of this week, we are excited to welcome our amazing staff back on campus to continue to prepare for the first day of school.  On Thursday, August 5th, we invite our incoming 6th graders and new students to RRMS to Storm the Castle during two 2 hour time blocks from 8AM-10AM and 10:30-12:30PM.  You will start in the cafeteria where you can pick up schedules, Royal goody bags, buy Royal spirit items, etc. We highly encourage that you complete the “know before you go” steps prior to coming on campus by accessing the Parent Portal in myStudent, updating the emergency card, paying fees and viewing the schedule.  After the cafeteria, you can take the interactive Conquer the Castle Tour visiting important areas on campus, taking Royal Photo Ops, and winning a prize at the end of the tour at the front office.  There are also Parent University sessions offered in the theater throughout the day at 8:30AM, 9:30AM, 10:30AM, and 12:00PM.

The returning 7th and 8th grade Royals will walk their schedules and pick up pre-paid items from 1PM-3PM.  Schedules and Fees will only be available online prior to coming to campus. Please enter by the middle school front office. There will be maps available as well as tables for school nurse (TDaP Shot Records – 7th Grade), spirit wear, Civics pick up, and PTSA set up in the cafeteria.

We are attempting a “touch-free” orientation day, please complete the “know before you go” steps listed on our website before coming on to campus for your designated event: Step 1: Create a myStudent Parent Portal account including updating emergency cards (this is especially crucial this year), Step 2: Pay School Fees, and Step 3: Print or Save Your Child’s Schedule and Receipts to Pick Up Items.

Finally, school supply lists are on the RRMS website and have been mailed/distributed to all families through Storm the Castle and the Back to School newsletter.  We highly recommend that students have their own personal hand sanitizer, water bottle as there will be no drinking from fountains only filling, earbuds, calculator, and bring your own electronic device either a computer or tablet to alleviate the need to share devices.  The RRMS PTSA has also partnered with schooltoolbox.com, which will send all supplies directly to your house and the school receives a donation.

Please make sure to access our website and social media daily as there will be frequent updates that will ensure a safe and successful start to the year!

Thank you for partnering with River Ridge in your child’s education! So Proud You are Royal!
