9/19/22

Good afternoon, Royal Families! This is Mrs. Murphy, Principal of RRMS. Please make sure to read and carefully look over this week’s Royal Update – Knight News for 9/19-9/23, which has been emailed to all families and is also located on the RRMS Website and Social Media accounts.

We are asking families to please discuss the importance of students keeping their hands, feet and other objects to themselves. We are seeing a rise in “hands on” behavior with students such as but not limited to “slap boxing,” jumping on each other’s shoulders, tripping, backpack pulling, etc. This type of behavior or “horseplay” is not appropriate or accepted behaviors at RRMS as it negatively affects our safe learning environment. Students who continue to participate in these inappropriate behaviors will be given a disciplinary consequence and law enforcement may be involved. I’m confident with the partnership between our families and the school staff and education of our students, we can stop these disruptive behaviors.

We will celebrate Start with Hello week this week with dress up days, acts of kindness, and a new student social.

Last week, we successfully launched the RRMS STEP IT UP SCHOOL-WIDE DONATION DRIVE which runs from 9/14-9/27! The funds raised will benefit all our students and staff in the way of Student and Teacher Resources, Student and Staff Recognition, and Technology. There is still time to complete the GOLDEN TICKET assignment which is registering at this link: https://app.pop4kids.org/riverridgems34654 and inputting 10 or more email addresses. All students who complete the Golden Ticket assignment will receive fun PRIZES and it does not require any money to register. We will also have some fun drawings for a $250 Amazon Gift Card and four Mini Party Fridges stuffed with CASH! Our goal is to raise $25, 000 and we are so close in only 4 days raising $21,000… we are so grateful to all who have supported our school!

Finally, those students who earn $50 will be able to participate in the RRMS Day of Awesomeness on October 11th.  Check out the video of all of the fun to come: https://youtu.be/ecdJlD1OuL4.

Good afternoon, Royal Families! This is Mrs. Murphy, Principal of RRMS. Please make sure to read and carefully look over this week’s Royal Update – Knight News for 9/5-9/9, which is located on the RRMS Website and Social Media accounts. Believe it or not, we are a month into the school year as Progress Reports will be coming out this week. I want to thank all of our families for a great start but want to remind everyone of the importance of being respectful, responsible problem solvers in everything that we do.

We are in our final week of F.A.S.T. Progress Monitoring for Math and ELA and NWEA MAP for Science Make Ups. If your child has not taken these assessments, they will be notified as these assessments are important for baseline data to guide instruction. Test results are located in myStudent under Test History and teachers will be holding brief data chats with students to set progress goals. Please contact Ms. Martanovic, if you have any questions about F.A.S.T. and Kevin Kolean for NWEA MAP.

We want to highly encourage you to READ CAREFULLY all of the items in the Parent Bill of Rights Consent. During conversations, we are realizing a number of parents were not fully aware of what they were signing when they did so. While parents have full rights to opt out/in of all items – and we realize how many words they have used – it is important to make informed decisions.

One example is the MEDIA RELEASE. Several parents opted out without realizing the last line of a lengthy page listed the fact that any student opting out will not be recognized if they play sports, or achieve any academic success, and will not be in the yearbook, among other restrictions. Again – if this opt out was done fully informed we absolutely respect that, but when the full details have been pointed out parents did reconsider.

Leaving the consent form blank is a NO for CLINIC SERVICES. If you would like your student to utilize the clinic if they are sick, or get hurt please consent to yes to illness care treatment and RN assessment. If you mark NO or DON’T FILL OUT THE FORMS your child can’t be seen in the clinic. Your child will be asked to call you to inform you of the situation. If you do not have internet access at home or a computer, you may come to the school to fill out the consent forms online.

If you have questions about ANY item please do not hesitate to reach out to our administration so that we can clarify the options as much as possible as it is new procedure for everyone.

On Tuesday, October 7th, Health Heroes will be on campus administering Flu Vaccines. If you would like your student to receive a Flu Vaccine, please fill out the consent attached and return it to the clinic or to ljanssen@pasco.k12.fl.us. They were also send out in 1st period classes.

This Wednesday, September 7th is our first Early Release Day of the year. We will be on a modified schedule with school ending at 11:30AM.  We will have an Enrichment Activity Period. Students will be given a pass first period for their activity and lists will also be posted on the media center and cafeteria windows. Students should dress appropriately for their activity and bring any materials needed. If there are any questions, please contact Ms. Grubbs.

This week is Sports, the Royal Knights kick off their football season on Thursday, September 8th at 6:30PM at Home vs. Hudson Academy. Come out and support our Royal Knights football, cheerleading, dance team, and band!  Tickets can be purchased on GoFan.co for $5 online or at the gate. There will be no cash taken at the gate.  The Pasco County School’s Clear Bag Policy will also be enforced.  Thank you for supporting our Royal Knight student-athletes! Go Knights!

On Friday, September 9, we will once again celebrate our Royal Spirit Fridays! Wear your River Ridge gear! This week we will host a mini-pep rally before school in the courtyard.

Finally, Progress Reports will be available on myStudent. In order for students to be considered “on track” they must earn As, Bs, and Cs and have no referrals.  Please take advantaged of Knight Time, which is daily academic intervention time, academic lunch, and the after school tutoring which will start on September 13th, every Tuesdays and Thursdays from 1:30PM-2:30PM in the Media Center.

There will be no school on Monday, September 5th in observance of Labor Day. Enjoy your 3-day weekend, Royals!

On Friday, August 26th, we are proud to host our first school dance for all River Ridge Middle School students.  It will be in the cafeteria from 6PM-8PM with a DJ, photo booth, Kona Ice, and concessions.  Let’s kick off the year with a new year’s dance complete with a balloon drop! Finally, our students participated in Town Hall meetings this week where we spoke about expectations, the Student Code of Conduct and how to positively get involved at River Ridge.  It is the expectation that all students be involved in at least one enrichment activity, which will take place on Early Release Days.  Students have the opportunity to sign up for up to 5 activities per semester.  We will make every effort to assign them to one of their top choices.  Students will then participate in that activity for the first semester.  If they do not complete the sign up, they will be placed in study hall. If they are also not “on track” academically, they will be assigned to the academic learning lab. Our first Early Release Day is Wednesday, September 7th so we are asking that students complete the sign up by Thursday, August 25th at this link or by using the QR Code. Please contact Ms. Grubbs, if you have any questions.

Don’t miss out on our Royal Spirit Fridays to show your Purple Pride each week… students who wear their River Ridge gear will get a special treat at lunch! Please make sure to check out the RRMS website and social media pages weekly as there is a ton of important information there including school-wide calendars.

We are looking forward to an amazing year where we are all #ALL IN!  Please don’t hesitate to contact us if you have any questions, concerns, recommendations or praise, we are truly partners in education with you!  Proud that you are Royal!

Good afternoon, Royal Families! This is Mrs. Murphy, Principal of RRMS.
We had an amazing start to the year and will continue the positive momentum throughout the year with the support of our parents/guardians and the River Ridge community. Please make sure to read and carefully look over the Royal Update – Knight News for 8/15-8/19 as there is a lot of important information included weekly at the link above.

We will be hosting Town Hall Grade Level Meetings on 8/15-8/17 where we will have face to face introductions of the RRMS Student Success Team members to our students. Grade level administrators, School Counselors, SSAP, Student Support Assistants, SRO and other support staff will walk students through Academic and Social Behavior Expectations, Student Code of Conduct, Royal Rewards, Safety on Campus, and being involved at River Ridge. These meetings will take place in the media center in Social Studies classes. Students will be asked to give their input during the Town Halls about future On Track incentives and enrichment activities. If a parent would like to have their student Opt Out from completing the input form, please contact Mr. Kolean at kkolean@pasco.k12.fl.us prior to 8/15. The student input form can be viewed at the QR Code below and is completely voluntary.  We also encourage you to review each of our safety and expectations video on our website with your child.

Please also make sure to go on to myStudent Parent Portal to update emergency card information, sign consents, and to Rycor to pay school fees for the year. We also have new spirit wear on sale on Rycor which can be picked up in the front office.

If you have questions about ANY item please do not hesitate to reach out to our administration or visit the Pasco County Schools Parent Bill of Rights website so that we can clarify the options as much as possible as it is new procedure for everyone.

We have several clubs that are currently holding open applications at this time.  Applications have been released for Student Council elections for 6th-8th grade. Online applications are due by Monday, August 22nd at Student Council application. Elections will be on August 25th and 26th online.  Please see Mrs. Brissey or Mrs. Von Frank for more information.

Calling all Thespians, if you are interested in competing/attending the festival or auditioning for the fall play, you MUST attend the informational meeting on Teams at 5:30PM on Monday, August 15th with a parent/guardian at TEAMS MEETING LINK. Please contact Mr. Grosso for more information.

Good afternoon, Royal Families! This is Mrs. Murphy, Principal of RRMS.
We had an amazing turn out on Friday at the Meet the Teacher Day Open House event! It was great to see all of our students and their families on campus. The new school year is upon us, so here is your first of many weekly phone calls.

Our school theme this year is #RRMS ALL IN!  We are committed to putting ALL IN to foster a royal culture of caring with a safe and loving school environment where learning happens at high levels and ALL students succeed!

The first day of school is this Wednesday, August 10th. Like last year, student hours are 7:10AM-1:30PM. Students will be permitted on to campus at 6:50AM.

As you are aware, student schedules are available on myStudent. Please be sure to check your schedule on Tuesday evening, as we will be making schedule adjustments based on the schedule change requests that we received on Friday, and you will need this schedule to locate your first period class on Wednesday.

When students arrive on Wednesday, rosters will be posted on the media center and cafeteria windows. There will also be staff members stationed throughout the campus to assist with directing students to their 1st period class. If a student would like to purchase breakfast, it will be available in the cafeteria from 6:50AM-7:05AM daily.  Unlike last year, we are requesting that students who want breakfast, grab breakfast and eat it in the cafeteria. We do ask that students go immediately to their 1st period class every day and that there be no congregating in the courtyards and hallways.

During 1st period, all students will receive a NEW schedule that will be YELLOW. This is the schedule that they are to follow from that point forward. Announcements will be made during 1st period for students to report to the media center if they have an error on their schedule.  All students who are taking a high school class 1st period will pick up their schedules at the front office.

7th grade families – if you have not provided the school with your immunization records, we need this documentation as soon as possible, or your child will not be able to attend school on the first day. Please contact school nurse, Leah Janssens at ljanssen@pasco.k12.fl.us, if you have questions. Also, parents can drop off medication for students at the clinic on Tuesday, August 9th by making an appointment with Ms. Noe at jnoe@pasco.k12.fl.us.

Please also make sure to go on to myStudent Parent Portal to update emergency card information, sign consents, and to Rycor to pay school fees for the year. We also have new spirit wear on sale on Rycor which can be picked up in the front office.  Don’t miss out on our Royal Spirit Fridays to show your Purple Pride… students who wear their River Ridge gear will get a special treat at lunch!
