Weekly Principal’s Message

5/24/2020

Congratulations to the 8th Grade Class as they were recognized on Thursday and Friday of last week. We are so proud of you and know that you have very bright futures. The links for both the Celebration of Excellence and Promotion Ceremony/8th Grade Video are still on our website and social media if you missed these wonderful events.

This week there is no school on Monday in observance of Memorial Day.  We want to recognize and honor those who have made the ultimate sacrifice. Students may still work on their assignments, but staff will not respond until Tuesday.

The last day of school is Wednesday, May 27th. It is highly recommended that students go back and check all of their grades in the myLearning grade book. Please contact your teachers by phone, email or through the inbox in myLearning we are here to help you until the very end. Students still have time to complete and resubmit assignments to show mastery and increase their grades until 11:59PM on this day.

Extended School Year or Summer School letters will also be going out this week by email and regular mail for those students who need to attend the sessions which will continue to be virtual from June 8th-July 18th.  Please contact Mrs. White or Mrs. Cadle, if you have any questions.

On May 28th and 29th, it is Item Drop Off and Pick Up Days at RRMS…

Unfortunately, we will only be able to distribute student items to students in the grade level at that assigned time. Following the outlined procedures will help the process run safely and efficiently. If you have children in more than one grade level, you will need to come back during those assigned times. We apologize for this inconvenience. If you are unable to make the assigned date, please contact the school and we will schedule an appointment for you to pick up your child’s items sometime in June.

Progress Reports will be published in myStudent this Friday, May 1st so please make sure that students stay on track with assignments and reach out for help as we are here to support in any way. You can monitor daily/weekly progress through an observer account in myLearning. Please check out directions to get an observer account on our website.

It is crucial that students maintain the weekly pace of 2-3 assignments per course per week. They also have the opportunity to have up to 3 attempts to resubmit assignments after gaining feedback and re-teaching from their teachers. Please make sure that your student is taking advantage of this.  Teachers have started to turn missing work into zeros to provide a realistic grade but there will be no late work penalty so students should go back and make up missing work. The learning time is flexible but we must make sure they are on pace to successfully complete the year!

8th graders, we need your baby pictures! It’s time to find those incredibly cute baby pictures for our 8th grade video. Please email ONE baby picture and ONE current, individual picture of your 8th grader. All pictures need to be sent electronically to Mrs. Baumaister at cbaumais@pasco.k12.fl.us with the subject line: 8th grade baby picture-student name. The deadline for photo submission is Friday, May 1st.

Additionally, you are still able to purchase a yearbook for $30 at yearbookforever.com. Prices will be going up soon. Every year we sell out so make sure you get yours today to capture this extraordinary year.

We are planning a virtual Staff Appreciation Week to honor our amazing River Ridge faculty and staff. We need you! On the website, social media, and in myLearning, we have posted a link for students and their families to give STAFF SHOUT OUTS to show appreciation!  Shout outs are due by Friday, May 1st.

Finally, Pasco County Schools has cancelled all face to face end of year celebrations. However, we are exploring virtual options for our end of year Celebration of Excellence grade level awards ceremonies and the 8th grade Promotion Ceremony.  More details to come on these virtual celebrations!

We know that some students may have personal items at school, in time, we will make arrangements for you to safely pick them up including yearbook, academic/athletic certificates and other items that may be needed. At this time, we are looking at item pick up and device drop off on May 28th and 29th, a schedule is forthcoming so continue to check our social media for the most up to date information!

We are here for you, we believe in you, and I know that our Royal Family, will succeed together!

As you probably heard on the news or through the school message system, for the health and safety of all, distant learning has been extended until the end of this school year, which will be May 27th. Although we are saddened by not being back on campus for the rest of the year, we know that for the safety of everyone this is the right decision.  Our students, teachers and families are doing an amazing job leveling up with distance learning and we have and will find both academic and social ways to stay connected as we finish the school year, Royal Strong.

One such activity to stay connected is that we are asking families to send in either a short 10-15 inspirational video of you holding or dancing with an inspirational message for the Royal Family or a short 10-15 second video of you just dancing by Tuesday, April 21st to Mrs. Baumaister at cbaumais@pasco.k12.fl.us

I am so proud of all of our Royal Knights as so many students have jumped into eLearning by contacting teachers, asking questions, completing and submitting assignments at a high level. We have had over 1,240 students log in to myLearning and over a 1,000 assignments completed so far for week one. This model of learning takes perseverance, grit and collaboration, which I have seen from our staff, students and their families. Let’s keep the momentum and finish Royal Strong!

It will be in the car loop in front of the middle school so you will not need to park. You will drive-thru and complete an electronic signature to check out the device. Please be patient as this is a large endeavor.

If you are experiencing any symptoms of COVID-19 or are not feeling well, and can not pick up, please send another representative that is on your child’s emergency card. We will be following all CDC protocols, including social distancing.
On Tuesday, March 31st, students should log in to myLearning as we launch the four core courses of Math, Science, Social Studies, and ELA as well as Spanish. Elective courses will launch on April 6th.  The courses are very easy to navigate and begin with a course pacing chart, navigation, and teacher contact information.  The teachers will be working in teams and all teachers will be grading, responding to discussion board posts, and responding to email/phone contacts to best serve all of our students. Teachers will be available for students from 8AM to 8PM and will provide information on their “office hours” through myLearning announcements.
Attendance will be taken every Monday in myStudent for the previous 7-day period. Student attendance will be based on student login, student to teacher interactions, and work submissions through the myLearning platform. Student services teams will use absences as a data source when monitoring for interventions and support as well as truancy procedures.  Student grades will be entered into the myLearning platform. Parents and guardians are encouraged to create an observer account to monitor student progress. I realize that some might be anxious, nervous, and even excited about this new norm of learning so in an effort to calm fears we have posted a distance learning preview video on our website. It is crucial that students maintain the weekly pace but learning times are flexible.
Finally, communication is one of the keys to a successful online learning experience.  Please visit the RRMS website as it will be updated with staff contact information such as individual Google Voice numbers and email addresses.  Please reach out to administration, teachers, counselors, and support staff if you have any questions or need support in this new journey. I would also highly encourage you to check the Pasco Schools and RRMS website as well as social media pages on a frequent basis.
We are here for you, we believe in you, and I know that our Royal Family, together, will royally rock eLearning!

Good afternoon Royal Knights. This is Mrs. Murphy, Principal of River Ridge Middle School.
I am looking forward to welcoming back all of our Royal Knights tomorrow morning when school starts at 7:30AM. The campus will be open to students starting at 7AM. Students who are car riders should only be dropped off and picked up in the middle school car loop. We ask that you be patient and courteous as there is usually a lot of traffic during the first few weeks. If at all possible, we are recommending that if your child is assigned a bus to please use the bus transportation as it limits the traffic. When students arrive on campus, they will be greeted by our Royal staff and should go to the media center or cafeteria to find their first period classes listed on the windows. Students will then report to first period when the first bell rings and will receive a brand new official schedule. Students should only follow the schedule they receive in first period as there have been some schedule changes.  Students will receive new River Ridge planners first period, which we will be using school-wide for communication and organization this year. Students may also pay fees and turn in emergency cards, healthy student forms, fundraiser Opt Out forms and peer volunteer forms directly to their teachers.

In the afternoon, the bus line up is posted on our website and will also be around campus so that students are aware which row their bus will be in at the middle school bus loop.

Please make sure that you are connected with River Ridge by visiting our website, following us on Facebook, Instagram, and Twitter @rrmsroyalknight. We will be posting many pictures and important information from the first day and throughout the year on these sites.

This week we will also have football tryouts Monday-Friday after school at 2PM. Meet in the boy’s locker room. We will also have Cheerleading tryouts on Wednesday-Friday from 2PM-3:30PM in the dance room.  Please make sure you have an up to date physical and paperwork completed to tryout.

Friday will be our Royal Spirit Day so make sure you wear your purple, black and silver to Rep the Ridge.

As always, if you have any questions or need clarifications, please don’t hesitate to contact us. I can’t wait to see our entire Royal Family back on campus ready to make this the best year ever at River Ridge Middle School as we level up because #WeAreRoyal!
